Let Me Decorate Your (Backyard): THE AFTER

#44

I’m Paige Wassel. WAS the Newsletter is your weekly dose of design inspiration, where, at the end of a long week, you might catch us with a WAS marg or a Studio Leonard spritz.

It’s go time, baby. We planned, we sourced, we laughed, we cried, we giggled. If you didn’t watch the final episode from last Sunday, well, let me break it down for ya with a little more juice.

THE COFFEE TABLE SAGA

Sometimes……………things just don’t work out. No project is done without a little purchase and re-sell. What were we thinking when we bought this coffee table? Who knows. But I will say, with every interior project I have ever worked on, there is always a choice I make where I say to myself “the hell?”

“I don’t like the coffee table.” – Kate

“Same.” – Paige

So we pivoted to a bigger, taller, slightly industrial table that takes up more space and fits the area better, I think. Perfect for singing, acting, and stage performances of all kinds. We do love to perform. Well, at least I do.

THE DECK

For the other side of the deck across from the couch, we chose two yellow chairs and this adorable wooden table to go in between them. Whoever painted the chairs that great yellow shade… can we have the color? THANKS!!!

THE FIRE PIT

To get the fire pit ready, we assembled our array of chairs (a mix of Adirondacks, iron dining chairs, and a couple other patio chairs), and then installed the fire pit in the center–a lovely little number from none other than FBMP.

In between the chairs, we put our freshly potted plants, courtesy of Rolling Greens. If you’re in the LA area, be sure to check out one of their many locations across the city for all your plant and planter needs. They rule.

We also spray painted these little iron tables a nice rust color to use around the fire pit. They were a little crusty before but a little crust never bothered us.

THE DINING AREA

NGL, we found A DEAL on this solid wood dining table. From Facebook Marketplace, our religion. We paired it with these berry toned CB2 iron chairs (another FBMP steal). Finally, we added these baby Louis Poulsen orange outdoor lamps for a pop of color. We love lighting in every and all locations.

THE LOUNGE AREA AND OTHER FINISHING TOUCHES

We ended up deciding to make this little part of the yard a lounge area. We found some vintage Brown Jordan outdoor chaises that probably sat by your local public pool for years. Perfect for lounging and watching the sunset…or maybe even sharing a cigarette. We also trimmed some of the plants to clean up the space a bit and it was quite satisfying.

Before the party, we added the final props (including WAS pillows, coasters, and placemats) and I added a planter behind the couch for an extra spot of green on the deck. Let’s hope these puppies grow.

THE PARTY

What better way to celebrate finishing the backyard than throwing a party?

“Hey everyone, come over and compliment our designs while we drink tequila”

I swear we didn’t plan to all wear white……

Shoutout to our videographer Jach for capturing and making this look like a 90’s indie film.

We drank. We ate. And then… we slept.
