The Vintage Happy Hour

#46

I’m Paige Wassel. WAS the Newsletter is your weekly dose of design inspiration, where we’ll always road trip, but make it fashion.

The best hang of the year is coming up and today we’re taking you behind the scenes as to how it all went down.

Any great quest starts with a question. In our case, Kate and I asked ourselves, “Hey, what if we went to Brimfield?” Brimfield is New England’s oldest antiques and collectibles outdoor flea market and it goes down thrice yearly.

In this case, the inspiration for our quest came from an outside source. A producer from out east who was familiar with Brimfield said, “You guys should come to the antique fair and film it.” You don’t have to threaten us with a good time, so we quickly got Kenny on board to film and Rachel to produce the video. (Spoiler alert: it’s gonna be a big one and comes out in December.)

People fly in from all over the world to attend Brimfield, with 50,000 attendees snapping everything from Swedish furniture to African beads.

Did we lose our minds buying every cool piece we ran across? (Rhetorical, obvi.) We picked up a metric ton of art, lamps, furniture we’re having reupholstered, etc. While, yeah, we’re keeping a few of the pieces for ourselves, there’s so, so much more that we’re selling at a pop-up. (More on this in a sec.)

Now, instead of strapping everything to the top of the car and traveling cross-country like Ma and Pa Joad, we came up with a better way. We rented a Pod, crammed it full of treasure, and shipped it to LA to stock said upcoming pop-up.

Our pop-up veterans already know what to expect in this upcoming immersive shopping experience, because it’s more than just committing commerce; it’s a whole mood. Here’s a look at the one with Able Shop in Chicago from the summer.

And the previous one in LA.

We’re hosting a legit hang again, with drinks and mocktails, with DJs, with dancing, with the kind of cool people you’ll want to connect with from our WAS community as you peruse the best of Brimfield. Are you going to fall in love with someone there? It’s possible. Will you fall in love with some thing there? It’s definite. Best part is, you’ll be able to retrieve anything you shop for the next day at Vintage Concept if you’re not into toting a Wegner style chair all night.

If you trust our sourcing skills (and you should), you’re going to love all the the pieces, the customed framed art, the candles, the cups, all the little details that turn a house into a home.

See you there!
