With a shingled sleeping pod with a view.

Once owned by a prolific Cowboy Western character actor (Justus McQueen, a.k.a. L.Q. Jones), this Hollywood Hills triplex is as trippy as they come.

Mostly because there’s a funky little wood-shingled mini geodesic dome plopped right in the dining room…

…including this viral domed home by architect William King:

Let’s take a look inside, shall we?

Built in 1938 with a distinctive midcentury vibe, this place has a ramshackle appearance befitting its rough-around-the-edges cowboy owner. Walk past the cramped but sunny kitchen, and you’ll find yourself in a wood-shingled addition currently serving as the dining room.

Basically growing out of the floor of the dining room, like an organic mush”ROOM”… is a strange shingled dome befitting some kind of forest troll.

On one side stands a coat rack. (Perhaps clothing is optional inside this strange little protuberance?) Upon opening the tilting little doors, we’re invited into a glass-paneled mini-geodesic dome with views of the palms and citrus trees below.

It’s hard to tell if there’s a bed or just a comfy sofa inside, but it certainly looks like a great place to bring a Hollywood starlet you just met on set. 😉 Our cowboy may have even entertained the infamous Elvis Presley at the property, who he starred with in Love Me Tender (‘56), Flaming Star (‘60), and Stay Away Joe (‘68).

The rest of the property is in need of repair, but with several separate entrances, multi-use zoning in place, a private office area on the bottom level, and a location just minutes from Universal Studios, it could be the perfect place for an investor or live-in landlord.

I’m just hoping we learn more about this funky place and all the Old Hollywood memories it must hold before it is either torn down or fully renovated.
