What’s up, friends?

Today’s home is is taking us to a state we don’t travel to that often on Hometasrophes… North Carolina! Given its lack of appearances here, that might make you think that this home is extra weird? Or drab? Maybe even a bit old?

But, no. It’s actually a normal amount of weird (for this newsletter) while simultaneously being gorgeous. And why is that? Because it takes the lines, curves, and overall architecture of a “normal” home and emphasizes the bones of it all: shapes. 

Located in Raleigh, NC, this 3-bed, 5-bath single-family residence from 1981 has circles, squares, and even a few rectangles. While the inside is spacious at 5,800 sqft, the lot of the property is only 0.94 acres. But don’t let that deter you! It packs a punch and justifies its $1.6 million dollar price tag.

As we approach the home, I’m loving every detail: the glass brick walls matching the rectangular design on the garage, the color of mulch emphasizing the pale paint colors, the way the lush greenery engulfs the home so… elegantly. It’s a little tacky, but in a Florida way, y’know?

Speaking of Florida, nothing screams humidity quite like an indoor pool that’s been lined with glass bricks and skylights. The deck furniture and floaties even match/complement the aquamarine pool. 

Now, it’s time for us to appreciate this goddess floating above the pool: a stained glass woman who appears to be diving into the water. 

She’s stunning. Her form is perfect. And she’s set the standards high for the rest of this place.  

So let’s properly begin our tour in an open-concept space:

Here is where the parties will live. The dining table is lined with floor-to-ceiling windows that lead us over to cozy chairs with natural diamond print. If you want to sit next to somebody, the sleek couch nearby a shelving unit that makes its decor pop!

Enough with the swimming, chatting, and lounging… let’s see where we can prep some food for this big ‘ole place:

Kitchen dreams do come true! A long island contains the dishwasher, deep sink, and breakfast bar. Across from this industrial fridge, Viking kitchen appliances are found all over -including an oven and stovetop with 8 burners! Luckily, there’s a walk-in pantry for ample ingredient space. 

After that hearty meal, let’s take the staircase to the second floor bedrooms…

Again, those glass blocks make an appearance. They add some character to this simple room, and ground it in the time of the home’s birth… over 40 years ago. Attached to this primary bedroom are very not-dated en-suite features: a bathroom with a huge circular window, a black and white aesthetic, and a large walk-in closet.

Beds are nice, but all these shapes make me want to party again. There’s a rustic fireplace corner, a pool viewing area, and even a chic game room.

If you need a place to rest, the other bedrooms do fulfill the shapely and dated requirements of the rest of this property. ‘Cuz, wow, I am not a fan of that baby blue bedding, but I do love the glass brick mosaic!!

Over in the other bathrooms, the primary shape is a square… but the primary color isn’t white, it’s brown. The wooden accents extend into the floor tiling -which is only found in this small corner of the home. It’s a favorite detail of mine that can only be seen in that one photo.

While we’re still upstairs, a lofty space gives us the opportunity to “pull a Jay Gatsby” and overlook our party zone:

The sun is rising. We’ve been partying for too long… so let’s rest in the sunroom!

So many reasons explain my love for this sun room: the art deco elements (shapes), the black tiles, the opaque ceiling, the curvature of said ceiling, and really just the general “vibes”.

Riding this high has been nice, but it’s always healthy to humble yourself. Like how this basement is finished and furnished… but I’m again reminded of tacky, basic Floridian Airbnb living…

To be clear: there is nothing wrong with this! It fits in the Hometasrophes universe, but it feels more basic tacky than fun tacky. But you already knew that.

Outside, everything comes full-circle. 

We’ve got shaped tiles, a shaped ceiling, shaped walls, and even a… fire hydrant for a dog to pee on? Oh, okay…

They always say “They don’t make ‘em how they used to” and this home is no exception to that rule. The uniqueness of this place cannot be understated. It’s in-shape, has a lot of shapes, and if it was a shape (metaphorically) it would be a heart. Because I loved exploring it with you 😉
