A Twist on Gratitude

WELCOME

Happy Thanksgiving Week!

Now, there’s an expression that man plans and God laughs. Last week I was sure that I could power through my scratchy throat with a positive attitude, so that was my plan. However, my immune system did not listen to my mantra. I guess the downside of being on the road so much is picking up a bug along the way as a souvenir. But I am back in fighting form and ready for the festivities.

My holiday wish for you is to have wonderful things in store this week and that your happiness and gratitude spilleth over!

I hope your Turkey Day is a lit as Snoopy’s.

STORY TIME WITH GLENNDA

Every morning when I wake up, I go through a list of that for which I am grateful. It grounds me every day to remember why I do what I do.

This year has been different from any other year and my team has faced some real challenges, as life has a way of throwing them at us. So, when it came time to review our annual transactions, I wanted to focus on one specific and important factor—enjoyment.

For every transaction, I asked for a rating of one to five, where three was not an option. I wanted us to assess if we enjoyed that specific interaction. The purpose of the exercise was to find out what parts of the business bring us the most joy and satisfaction, what parts were really hitting home for us, and where we were able to show our strengths and bring value to the transaction.

What opened my eyes was discovering that some clients just weren’t a good fit. And rather than trying to put them in my sphere of influence/possible future business/possible referral business, I had to ask myself, Do I really want to go deep in that relationship?

Think about it, we spend so much time and so much money on the transactions, so why not concentrate on those where we felt like we brought the most value? So I asked the girls to look at their business and tell me their top ten transactions, although I had them rank everybody.

You put yourself in a position of abundance when you understand yourself and who you work with better, because that allows you to live in that space of gratitude. There’s nothing that steals appreciation and gratitude more than being around those who are not grateful for you and your efforts.

Because we’ve all had a challenging year, and even though I’m so thankful for all the business, I really don’t want my team to have to work with people who don’t realize the value of what we bring to the table. We’re all learning to identify those who feed our soul and those who suck it out of us.

This year, we’ve discovered that what matters most to us is to feel like our value is appreciated and not that we’re disposable or expendable. We thrive when we get to work with those who solicit our counsel and who believe in our abilities. So I am incredibly grateful to be busy enough that we can opt to serve those who want to depend on us.

I have to also say that even though it’s been a bumpy ride getting here, I feel grateful for the changes in our industry. Changing the way we do business is ultimately going to benefit us all as those of us who are good are going to be looked at more and more as financial consultants. An industry cleansing is coming and on the other side of that, we’re going to see that the Michael Jordans of real estate actually deserve to be paid handsomely.

As it was, the Matlock or Perry Mason of real estate was paid exactly as much as the person who graduated last in their class at law school last year. If you’re seeking legal advice or medical advice, you expect to pay for expertise. And the way the new system is shaking out, that’s going to be the case with us as well. It hasn’t been fair that those of us who’ve busted our butts going above and beyond have until now made the same amount as those who take two days to return a call, or can’t be bothered to come to the inspection.

So that’s why I am headed into 2025 feeling both grateful and hopeful that everything on the horizon is going to be bigger and better, and I wish the same for y’all.

Happy Thanksgiving!

My Diamond Squad is at the top of my list when I count my blessings!

Now Ricardo is living the American dream, as he came to this country from Colombia with only $25 in his pocket but a heart full of ambition. And that is why he has the #1 team in New England and is the NAHREP #1 Latino agent in the US, with $4B in sales. So please join us for our conversation, and I defy y’all not to be inspired!

Thank you, Ricardo!
