INTRODUCING COACH LINDY
#93
I’m Paige Wassel. WAS the Newsletter is your weekly dose of design inspiration, where, maybe sometimes we do talk about things other than interiors. ONLY SOMETIMES THOUGH.
Hey, remember my friend Lindy from this video?

Or maybe it's this one?

Wait, no, it's this one…

Wait, wait, wait, this guy!

If you haven't watched Lindy get goofy on my channel, well, allow me to introduce the man of the hour, LINDOR TRUFFLE. A nickname that has stuck since college. Lindy.. Lindor Truffles, Truff, Troof.

Lindy prefers Lindy, but it’s challenging for me to drop the Troof. Lindy is a literal treasure, and I truly love him so much.

Lindy is one of the most authentic, genuine, caring, fun-lovin, go-gettin, friends that I have. It’s even more highlighted as pretty much everyone adores him. Some would say, TOO much. One of my favorite traits of Lindy’s is his ability to plan and schedule. It's a privilege when it’s your idea and you can lock him down for a dinner. Just make sure it's at least 3 weeks in advance so he can add it to his google calendar.

Another thing I admire about Lindy, is his continued practice of digging deep to truly know and understand himself. Lindy came out as queer in our first year living in Los Angeles and then trans a few years after that. These experiences took a lot of navigation and as an outsider, I couldn't be more proud of the example he has set for so many. It speaks volumes.
An exciting new development, and a big reason why I’m featuring Lindy, is to showcase his new interpersonal coaching business, Queer Lens Coaching. Lindy’s new venture aims to help people going through big life transitions. Whether you’re queer yourself, a parent of someone transitioning, or someone in the midst of a lot of change, Lindy is there to help navigate the personal and interpersonal situations that are inevitable in life. Lindy’s approach is rooted in experience and his committed practice of continued growth, study and learning. Lindy’s niche is working with queer individuals and families, but it goes without saying that Lindy’s coaching would help anyone.
I hope you enjoy the interview! And make sure to check out Lindy's services or pass along to those who could benefit <3

Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I’m a fun, loving, (sometimes, odd) person with roots in Chicago and Los Angeles. I love connecting with people and to be in dialogue with others around personal growth!
-
What inspired you to become a coach for families and friends navigating queer relationships?
In my experience and in witnessing the stories of others, there’s a missing element to the coming-out process, which is unconditional parental support. You will see parents “support” their queer kids, but are they educating themselves on the side? Or are the parents seeking their own support system to help them manage through the transition of their child coming out? I believe that with coaching, relationship-building, and compassion, we can work toward the solution to this problem, which is just to be with your kid, as they are, in all their complexities.
-
How would you describe your coaching philosophy?
I’ve always been a very approachable person. It matters to me that folks in my life feel okay exactly as they are – even if they may make a mistake or are earlier in their learning process. My coaching philosophy runs the same:
Meet people where they are and don’t pass judgment on where they are in their journey.
-
What are the most common challenges you encounter with clients?
Likely the most common challenge I encounter when coaching clients is that they think they should already understand every aspect of their child’s LGBTQ+ identity. Understandably, parents would feel bad about not knowing the intricate details of what their child is experiencing, but just like any time a person is comprehending something for the first time, it takes a period of time to understand and solid effort.
-
What advice would you give to queer individuals struggling with their familial and community relationships? And what about family members working to change their perspectives?
My words of wisdom is that things get better with time, whether that is the queer individual gaining more comfort with who they are and what they are going through, or if it is the parent who is forming new ideas of who their child is and learning about how to interact with them…it all takes time, so give yourself grace.
For your first purchase with Queer Lens Coaching, friends/followers can use the code "friends" (all lowercase) for $10 off. Here’s to supporting one another in all of life’s transitions—Lindy is the real deal, and I’m so excited for you to connect with him.
